State team covers New Orleans in prayer to start partnership

An Alabama Baptist team prayer walked in New Orleans March 1 as an official start to the state convention’s partnership with the city’s rebuilding project.

The team prayed over the city’s Zone 6 — as defined by Operation New Orleans Area Homes (NOAH) Rebuild — lifting up the zone’s population, churches and the multitude of volunteers working there.

The prayer-walking team members included Rick Lance, executive director of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions (SBOM); SBOM employees Mike Nuss, Max Croft, Reggie Quimby and Tommy Puckett; Pastor Willie Hinton of West Mastin Lake Baptist Church, Huntsville; and David Rhymes, evangelism strategist with the North American Mission Board who is working with New Orleans churches.

The team prayer walked with the staff of Operation NOAH, as well as Matthew Tanner Sr., pastor of Loving Four Baptist Tabernacle, the only established Southern Baptist work in Zone 6.

Other stops included the World Trade Center, which houses volunteers in the Volunteer Village, and Oak Park Baptist Church, which is also housing volunteers.

The team also visited a work site where Alabama Baptist volunteers are helping rebuild a home. (TAB)
