Sleepwalkers
Indelible Creative Group
In the proud tradition of bands with semi-random numbers in their name comes band Spur58 and its album “Sleepwalkers,” a straightforward blend of worshipful, Christ-centric pop-rock and sweeping adult contemporary music.
At first listen, the majority of tracks sound like deliberate evangelical vehicles built to cruise from youth conference to youth conference (which is fine). But it’s the pianos — the pianos they weave into the mix and even build songs around — that will embolden discerning listeners to appreciate the band’s music as art in and of itself. Spur58 displayed this art and its hipness, despite never straying from youth group poetry lyrically. In fact, Spur58 gets positively orchestral at times, epic even, and this is what will set them apart. A great singer also helps.
Overall Sleepwalkers is a fine debut and ultimately quite satisfying despite their somewhat predictable aesthetic.
