Want to help change women’s lives? National Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU) offers what it proposes is a proven way to do it.
Through its Christian Women’s Job Corps (CWJC) sites throughout the United States, women are equipped in a Christian context for life and employment. The program also offers a one-to-one context in which women mentor women.
In 2007, CWJC celebrated its 10th anniversary of changing lives through this ministry which helps women attain basic life skills needed for self-sufficiency while engaging them in weekly Bible study and pairing them with a mentor for encouragement and accountability. Its counterpart for men — Christian Men’s Job Corps (CMJC) — adopted CWJC’s purpose statement and began in 2004.
Growth of CWJC/CMJC has been tremendous and through these ministries, countless men and women are gaining self-confidence, purpose, direction and hope for their future, according to national WMU.
In 2007 in Alabama, 105 staff and volunteers ministered to 274 women and men, 41 of whom indicated decisions for Christ that year.
These ministries also continue to expand beyond U.S. borders. Through WMU’s International Initiatives, a volunteer team traveled to Moldova in January for a vision trip to identify training opportunities for a ministry to work with women coming out of human trafficking.
A second international training team traveled to Liberia in February for the purpose of training community leaders at Ricks Institute to begin a CWJC and CMJC.
