Emory McDougal has been a member of the Marshall Baptist Association disaster relief chain saw team for about six years. Now age 86, he also helps his neighbors regularly by doing farm work and meeting other needs. Over the years, he has gone on six missions trips to Romania and a few in the United States.
Q: What led you to join the chain saw team?
A: I found out about the chain saw training and took it. I realized the possibilities for going and helping in relief work. I have used every possibility that I could since that time to serve in that capacity. I just try to keep busy and help any way I can.
Q: What does this ministry demand?
A: It demands putting in a good effort in the work. Sometimes we may talk with the person and express our love. A lot of times, they will wonder why we are doing it, and we’ll tell them it’s because of the love of Christ.
Q: What do you get from the ministry?
A: It’s just a great feeling to go to a place and do the best we can and realize that we have helped someone. We get so much out of helping these people.
Q: How do family members support you?
A: My children think it’s great that I’m involved in something that I enjoy doing. I’ll call them up and let them know when I’m about to go on a trip and they give me encouragement.
Q: How do you see yourself involved in this in the future?
A: I want to continue as long as the Lord permits. I’ve been greatly blessed with health and strength. The Lord has been so good. I don’t see any reason, at present, why I cannot continue.
