Poet Voices

Steppin’ Stones
Sonlite Records

Four of the 10 selections on this dynamic, new project have been recorded by other groups, but Poet Voices leaves its indelible imprint on every cut.

“Glory in the Story” was first done by Three Bridges, “God Is Good” was originally recorded by The Hoppers and “He’s Already in Your Tomorrow” — on which Greg Crowe turns in a strong performance — was first released by The Kingdom Heirs.

Other standouts include “The Great I Am Still Is,” a powerful ballad featuring Mark Lanier, whose rich baritone perfectly complements the voices of Crowe and Phil Cross.

“Pilgrims and Strangers” is a good song with a driving beat, and “For All the Days That End in Why” — written by Lanier and sung by Crowe — should find popularity with both southern gospel fans and radio programmers.
Cross wrote or co-wrote nine of the songs on this project, and it’s safe to say that his gifted songwriting will always be Poet Voices’ greatest strength.

Just consider these remarkable lines from the title song: “The burdens that we bear are heavy rocks when we do not lay them down. When we will not carry, these stumblin’ blocks become steppin’ stones to higher ground.” (Burt Perrault & Keith Morgan)
