Sandra Fowler has worked in various student services positions at Judson College in Marion for 17 years. Currently she serves as interim vice president of student services at Judson, where she challenges and supports students in doing their best at school.
Q: What led you to this position?
A: First, the pastor of my home church, Jack Collins, encouraged me to consider Judson. I came to be a student for one year, fell in love with it and graduated here. Later, I was encouraged to get a master’s degree in this area because a mentor told me I worked well with students. So it just led to this. I enjoy working with students. I like to cheer them on and encourage them.
Q: Do you consider this position a ministry?
A: I believe it is, especially working at Judson because I can encourage students to grow in their faith. Here I have the freedom to share with students that God loves them, cares about them and wants His best for them.
Q: What does the ministry demand?
A: Love for college students as they find their way.
Q: What do you get from the ministry?
A: I get to see God work in students’ lives. It’s a blessing to watch them grow. It’s also a joy to give back to a place that nurtured me.
Q: How do other family members support you?
A: My husband and children are very supportive. They never complain if I have to put in extra hours.
Q: How do you see yourself involved in this in the future?
A: I hope to continue in this field. I’m happy working at a place that seeks to put God first, and I’m proud of the connection that Judson has with Alabama Baptists. I hope that today’s pastors will encourage the young women in their churches to consider Judson.
Q: What difference will this position make for you in the future?
A: It’s not about me. It’s what can I do to help the students while I’m here.
