Board of Trustees elects Harrel McKinney president

Montgomery businessman Harrel McKinney said that as trustees president, he will continually encourage
Alabama Baptists to see the work of Alabama Baptist Children’s Homes & Family Ministries as home missions.

The whole idea of the Children’s Homes & Family Ministries is to meet people’s physical and emotional needs while helping them get their spiritual needs met through Jesus Christ, McKinney noted.

“So often, we think of home missions as going to another state, but there are needs in the Alabama communities where we live,” said McKinney, a Children’s Homes trustee since 1993. “This agency is about families in need in everyday living, and our message to them should be life application of the Gospel of Christ.”

Through professional counseling services, marriage enrichment workshops, and family assistance programs, God uses the Children’s Homes & Family Ministries to strengthen many marriages, McKinney emphasized.

“Keeping marriages strong is the key to keeping children and families healthy,” he said. “I will continue to encourage the Children’s Homes & Family Ministries to show people that their actions have far-reaching effects.”

McKinney’s election as trustees president was in the board’s Nov. 3 meeting. Helen Johnston of Troy was elected vice president and Charles Shaddix of Hartselle was re-elected secretary.
