Is “Christian conservative” an oxymoron? Was Jesus a conservative in His time? Does it not depend on how one defines conservative?
As a conservative Southern Baptist, I draw a thin line between church and state. The “Religion in America” item appearing on page 10, Oct. 12 issue reflects Rev. Pat Robertson’s concept of conservatism in his urging support of a presidential candidate who declined an invitation to speak at a coalition pep rally in Washington Sept. 29.
Believing that Southern Baptists need no “coalition thrust” in deciding how to vote Nov. 7, I approve of the candidate’s declining an invitation to address Pat’s gathering.
