WASHINGTON — The U.S. government received $700,000 in repayment from the London-based International Planned Parenthood Federation days before a team from the General Accounting Office was to audit the group at the request of Sen. Jesse Helms (R-N.C.).
The funds were originally given to affiliates in Uganda and India, which used the money to perform abortions and lobby for liberal abortion laws, in violation of U.S. policy.
