CrossWalk Alabama began in March of this year when young women from Autauga and Elmore associations began the journey of a wooden cross across Alabama. The cross has now visited more than half of the 75 Alabama Baptist associations. The conclusion of CrossWalk Alabama is set for March on the steps of the Capitol.
CrossWalk is a national movement that began in 1996 by six Florida Acteens panelists. The high schoolers dreamed of a plan that would encourage youth to live out the Great Commission by being on mission in their communities and at the same time drawing attention to the Acteens and Youth on Mission programs. The Acteens developed a program to have a cross carried around the state of Florida. Since then, Florida has passed its cross to Kentucky and then to Mississippi. Alabama WMU constructed its cross and will pass it to another state in the spring of 2001. (WMU)
