Want to know God?

First Baptist Church, Haleyville

I will never forget a conversation I had some years ago with a young lady who had come to be a part of the youth ministry of the church I was serving at the time.

She had come to us from a spiritual vacuum, with no experience of Jesus Christ, church or Scripture whatsoever.
We were discussing a guest I had invited to speak to our group, and she said, “I believe that is the most arrogant person I have ever met.” I was surprised and asked why she felt that way. “Didn’t you hear him? He said we needed to accept Christ!” I asked what was wrong with that. She responded, “We should be worried about whether Christ accepts us.” It is hard to argue with that kind of reasoning.

The good news is that He has accepted us. Ephesians 1:6–7 says, “… He has made us accepted in the Beloved. In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of His grace.”

The greatest news you will ever hear is that God has already accepted you because of what Jesus did to forgive everything wrong you have ever done. You could never earn His acceptance, but He offers it to you as a free gift.

All you have to do is receive that gift. That is what it means to “accept Christ.” It means to trust Him as your personal Savior and follow Him as your personal Lord.

You can’t earn it but you must receive His salvation as a deliberate act of faith. Why not receive that gift today?

Pray something like this: “Lord Jesus, I know that I could never earn your acceptance. I have made too many mistakes. All I can do is receive what you freely offer. Please forgive my sins and come into my life. Please give me eternal life.”

If you prayed that prayer, then you have been accepted by God right now. Please find a Baptist church near where you live and tell the pastor you have accepted Christ. He will help you understand more about what it means to know and follow Jesus. Remember, trusting Christ is only the first step to following Him every day of your life and being with Him in heaven someday. God has a special plan for your life.
