Baptist schools and Gustav

– University of Mobile (UM) suffered no damage. UM cancelled classes and closed campus Sept. 2 due to the storm. Classes resumed and offices opened Sept. 3.

– Samford University hosted the football team of Tulane University for practices in Seibert Stadium Sept. 1–4. The team was forced to leave its New Orleans, La., campus due to mandatory evacuations caused by Hurricane Gustav. They were housed in a local hotel during their Birmingham stay. The Green Wave also used Samford’s weight and training rooms, meeting rooms and other facilities, and ate in the Samford cafeteria.

– New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary suffered only minimal damage. At press time, classes were set to resume and offices to reopen Sept. 9.
