NorthPark Baptist Church, Trussville, in Birmingham Baptist Association took about 150 high school students to the Lovelady Center, a faith-based treatment and transitional center for women and children located in Birmingham, as part of its DiscipleNow weekend.
On Aug. 16, the students moved equipment, books and furniture to help the center get ready to open a new school, Freedom Reign Christian Academy. The group also worked in the James K. Lovelady Freedom Garden, moving dirt and gravel, creating flowerbeds and assembling a wooden fence. They also created natural areas in front of the building. There was also a group that swept and pressure washed the parking deck.
“Working at the Lovelady Center is part of our attempt to train students to be outwardly focused,” said Stephen Hall, minister to high school students at NorthPark. “During the DiscipleNow weekend, we challenged our students to answer the call that God has put on their lives. This challenge encompasses being a missionary on their school campus and living life looking for ways to share the message of hope.”
NorthPark’s middle school students also did missions projects, working at a local school and ministering at several nursing homes.
