Longtime pastor James Preston Mixon, 82, died Aug. 24. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Springville, in St. Clair Baptist Association, where he served as associate pastor until his retirement. Mixon served as pastor of churches in Alabama and Kentucky for 50 years.
The World War II veteran was in the last graduating class of Birmingham’s Howard College before it became Samford University, and he was a graduate of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. Mixon served on committees in Birmingham Baptist Association, Calhoun Baptist Association and St. Clair Association. He also taught at Howard College Extension for five years.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty Boyd Mixon; two daughters; two grandchildren; one sister; and several nieces and nephews. (TAB)
