Charles David Mullins, a former Alabama Baptist pastor and international missionary, died Dec. 13. He was 90.
A native of Helena, Mullins graduated from Howard College (now Samford University) in Birmingham and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.
After serving as pastor of West Highland Baptist Church, Andalusia, and Sixty-Sixth Street Baptist Church, Birmingham, Mullins and his wife, Sara, were appointed by the Foreign Mission Board (now International Mission Board) in 1955 to serve on the missions field. They spent more than 20 years in Hawaii, which didn’t become a state until 1959, and five years in East Asia.
After retiring in 1982, he continued to serve in ministry positions including several years as pastor of the Vietnamese congregation of Woodlawn Baptist Church, Birmingham.
Throughout his career and into retirement, Mullins preached crusades in Korea, Taiwan and Japan.
Most recently, Mullins was a member of First Baptist Church, Helena, where he was a Sunday School teacher and led worship at an assisted-living facility.
Mullins is survived by his wife of 66 years, three children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. (TAB)
