We had a wonderful afternoon in Soweto, home to over 4 million mostly economically disadvantaged Africans.
There was a stabbing in the shopping area where one team was teaching — in fact, while they were actually teaching — but they were unaware of it until afterward.
There was the usual assortment of drunkards and some visibly demon-possessed persons, as well as many recent immigrants who weren’t using any of the languages we could converse in (even with local interpreters). But God won the day.
Pam got to share with Mama Caroline, and it was definitely a divine appointment. Mama C has been distraught by a troublesome dream for quite some time. In her dream, she was apparently dead and was taken to a place overlooking the earth by an unknown presence.
While there, she could see on her right a large gathering of people dressed in beautiful “choir costumes,” singing glorious music. On her left, she could see wicked people from all walks of life, screaming in torment as they were punished. It seems that ever since she dreamed this dream, she has been trying to figure out how to be sure she would make it to the choir! When I shared with her, she choked up with emotion and told me this was exactly what she was looking for. We prayed together. We have some national partners in the area who will follow up with her.
Bob also had very productive “seed sowing” time, as did the other 30 strategy leaders who were participating in the training. We estimate perhaps as many as 40 professions of faith in the one afternoon.
The specific neighborhood we were in was one that our colleagues had targeted for new work, and since almost all of the new believers were challenged to immediately think of (at least) five other persons they should tell their story to, it looks like the foundation has been laid.
