Vote ‘yes’ for state marriage amendment

Vote ‘yes’ for state marriage amendment

Vote “yes” for the Alabama Marriage Amendment. That’s the word coming from Dan Ireland, executive director of Alabama Citizens Action Program.

“Biblically and traditionally, marriage has always been between one man and one woman,” he said. “This amendment safeguards the institution of marriage according to the Bible.”

The amendment will appear on the ballot during the June 6 primary elections. This will be the only statewide constitutional amendment on the ballot, Ireland noted.

It will appear on the ballots for both the Democratic and Republican primaries, as well as on a single special ballot for people who do not want to vote in either primary election.

The question will read: “Shall the following Amendment be adopted to the Constitution of Alabama?”

The proposed amendment states: “Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, to provide that no marriage license shall be issued in Alabama to parties of the same sex and that the state shall not recognize a marriage of parties of the same sex that occurred as a result of the law of any other jurisdiction. (Proposed by ACT 2005-35)”

“The important thing is to vote ‘yes’ on the Alabama Marriage Amendment,” Ireland said. (TAB)
