Hopper Retires

Terry Hopper, golf coach and professor of human performance and exercise science at the University of Mobile (UM), is retiring from teaching this year after 36 years at the university. He helped develop UM’s athletic program in 1984. The program’s first intercollegiate sport was men’s golf, and the team was established in 1985.

In 1997, Hopper coached the men’s team to its first national championship title, and the women’s team, which was established in the early 1990s, won a title the next year. Hopper is also being inducted into the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame in the Men’s Golf Coach category.

In addition, he recently received the William A. Megginson Teaching Award for excellence in classroom teaching, scholarly activity and his contributions to campus and community life.
