It was about a year ago that Cynthia McNair Burke says God placed the idea of “Friggles … A Story of Frills, Giggles and Girls” in her heart.
Now with two self-published books and a third on the way, Burke is putting her years of experience in children’s ministry and passion for the Bible to work, helping families understand that “even if everything else is taken away, we still have God’s Word.”
And that is just the message that “Friggles” brings to 6- to 10-year-old readers as it takes them through the life of third-grader Sara Kate.
“Sara Kate lives her life every day trusting God and holding on to the verses from His Word that she has learned from her mom that carry her through the struggles she faces,” explained Burke, director of the weekday preschoolers education program at Liberty Park Baptist Church, Vestavia Hills.
She hopes her readers learn from Sara Kate’s example to trust God, grow in their knowledge of His Word, develop a passion for it and realize it has an answer for everything they face.
“It has been awesome and humbling to be on the sidelines and watch God work in Cynthia’s life as these story lines have poured out of her,” said Helen Mayo, pastor’s assistant at Liberty Park Baptist. “She has yielded herself to Him through the entire process.”
That’s because Burke says she knows it is not about her.
“I know it is something God has given me to use as a ministry,” Burke said. “I pray every day, ‘Lord, it’s in your hands.’”
