Potts gains new position at Samford

Earl Potts, former executive director of the Alabama Baptist State Convention, has been named director of ministerial placement at Samford University.

In this capacity, he will supervise the church placement program, which assists students in ministry job placement, and Samford Sunday, which schedules student ministers to preach in Alabama Baptist churches.

James R. Barnette, university minister, announced Potts’ appointment.

“We are thrilled he will be joining us in this capacity,” said Barnette.

Potts will continue to serve as an adjunct faculty member of Samford’s Beeson Divinity School.

A Randolph County native, Potts is a graduate of Samford and Southern Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He was pastor of McElwain Baptist Church, Birmingham, before joining the state convention as director of church ministries.

Potts served as executive director of the state convention from 1984 until his retirement in 1990.
