The article “State hate crimes bill addresses sexual orientation” in the April 30 issue gave some details on Alabama House Bill (HB) 533. The bill, evidently, seeks to make homosexuals a protected class of people by making crimes against them a hate crime. This is being presented in the name of civil rights.
Sexual orientation is a civil right? Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are civil rights. Sexual intercourse and/or marriage are not. Freedom of speech used to be a constitutional right. I guess that is old school.
Personally I could not care less to whom or what one wants to mate. God has given us all freedom to choose, and I agree with His position. But I also must accept that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit has condemned homosexual relations as abominable and that none who practice such will enter the kingdom of heaven. If this position upsets someone to the point of death, I suspect HB 533 would make me guilty of homicide. I know not all will agree or care, but like it or not, God does discriminate.
