Recent Girls Night Out draws 1,650 women

It was Girls Night Out with some of their closest friends — 1,650 to be exact.

Sponsored by Hunter Street Baptist Church, Hoover, in Birmingham Baptist Association, the April 28 event drew a variety of women to the church to hear Sherri Burgess (see story, this page).

The theme for the night focused on Psalm 34:8, “O taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed are those who take refuge in Him.”

Along with Burgess, another highlight included “cardboard testimonies,” said Tommye Lambert, minister to median adults and women at Hunter Street Baptist.

While music played in the background, 23 women shared their testimonies, which had been written in black marker onto brown pieces of cardboard.

Silently walking from the back of the stage to the pulpit, each woman showed one side of the cardboard with a few words describing her struggle.

Then she turned the cardboard over to show words describing where she is now. At the end, all 23 women were standing together silently showing their cardboards with what God had done in their lives.

Upon leaving, each woman received a homemade sugar cookie in the shape of a flower made by Sister Schubert’s daughter, Chrissie, reminding them to “taste and see” how good God is.

“God connected all the dots so that the focus was on Him,” Lambert said. “There was a sense of awe of who God is throughout the night.” (TAB)
