Twelve-year-old Megan Elizabeth Brittain, a member of First Baptist Church, Jacksonville, died June 2 after a nearly two-year battle with soft-tissue cancer.
Hundreds of Baptists across the state rallied to support the Brittain family when Megan was diagnosed in July 2007, just six months after her mother died of breast cancer. Megan’s father, Gary, is campus minister at Jacksonville State University’s Baptist Campus Ministry.
“We are truly blessed to have family, friends, church and community who love us,” Gary Brittain wrote on Megan’s CaringBridge site after her death. “We have experienced the love of Christ expressed through His people in so many ways. Most of all, I am grateful for the many prayers on our behalf.”
Megan is survived by her father and two older brothers, Ian and Bradley.
A story about Megan’s battle was printed in the May 14 issue of The Alabama Baptist. More information about her story is also available at www.caringbridge.org/visit/meganbrittain. (TAB)
