Family Status: Married to Bettye for 50 years; two children, Michael and Zaneta; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild expected in March
Ray Brown has maintained Center Point’s buildings for 50 years on a volunteer basis. A former Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions executive committee member, he has also served as deacon for 47 years and chairman of the church building committee for about 45 years.
Q: What led you to do this work?
A: I just enjoy that kind of work. I personally think that God led me to Center Point Baptist Church where He has used me in the building and maintaining our facilities over the years.
Q: What does the ministry demand?
A: Coordinating, planning and renovating at times.
Q: What do you get from this ministry?
A: I believe that all of us are gifted and called to serve in some capacity. I feel a sense of accomplishment and thankfulness that God has permitted me to serve in this capacity at our church.
Q: How do you see yourself involved in this in the future?
A: I’m 72 years old and I don’t know how many more years God will permit me to have good health, but I hope to continue to be involved in our church ministry.
Q: How do other family members support you?
A: Very supportive. They know that I enjoy doing it and permit me to do it.
Q: What difference will this ministry make for you in the future?
A: It will provide a sense of satisfaction that I’m doing something productive or something that’s useful.
