Want to know God?

Union Hill Baptist Church, Oneonta

Pastors spend a lot of time in hospitals praying with people and waiting for results. Sadly some people are in a hospital because of poor choices. There is a parallel between our physical health and spiritual condition. Many people ignore their physical health. Many more ignore their spiritual condition. Jesus, the “Great Physician,” said, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).

For you to have this spiritual life, you must realize your spiritual need. The Bible diagnoses your problem. “[A]ll have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23), and “the wages of sin is death” (Rom. 6:23). Just as you must face an illness to find help, you must realize and acknowledge your sin to come to the Savior.

Next you must act upon the diagnosis. Jesus said all must repent of sin or perish (Luke 13:3). You repent when you turn away from sin and toward God. With His help, you willingly change the direction of your life. Many people find a better quality to life when they follow a doctor’s orders. Some even save their life. Jesus commanded us to repent or perish.

Then place your faith in Jesus and receive the gift of eternal life. The second part of Romans 6:23 says, “the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The apostle Paul made it clear in Ephesians 2:8–9, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”

Every day people say no to medicine that could help them, refusing the cure. Jesus is the cure for sin, and you must receive Him into your life to be saved (John 1:12).

It is exciting to see someone go home from the hospital and recover to full health. It also is exciting to see someone realize his or her need for Jesus, repent of his or her sin and receive Him as Savior and Lord. If you would realize, repent and receive Jesus today, then He would save and heal your soul. Ask Jesus to be your Savior, Lord and Great Physician.
