Hurshel Leon Sizemore, a former Alabama Baptist pastor, died Aug. 14. He was 86.
Sizemore served as pastor of Calera Baptist Church; Northside Baptist Church, Talladega; Maytown Baptist Church; Inglenook Baptist Church, Birmingham; Vinesville Baptist Church, Birmingham; Union Grove Baptist Church, Jemison; and Berney Points Baptist Church, Hoover, as well as a church in Texas and one in Tennessee. He also served as interim pastor of churches in Jefferson and Shelby counties.
Sizemore held various leadership positions at the associational and state level, including president of the Alabama Baptist Pastors Conference. He was named pastor of the year in 1970 by Birmingham Baptist Association. A native of Holly Pond, Sizemore attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He served in the Army during World War II.
Sizemore is survived by his wife of 67 years, Velma; two children; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. (TAB)
