Awaken the Dawn

The opening strains of “Awaken the Dawn” sounds fantastically similar to the opening strains of Iona’s fantastic 1992 album “The Book of Kells.”
This is a good thing, and soaring orchestration and stirring arrangements indeed define Keith and Kristyn Getty’s latest venture into Celtic-inspired praise and worship.
The beautiful 12-song collection is arranged as if for a worship service — a nice complement to hymns of traditional Irish folk music, an immanently singable style.
As if the pathos achieved with “Awaken the Dawn” wasn’t cinematic enough, the CD comes with a short companion DVD, “Behind the Hymns,” filmed on the North Coast of Ireland. Highly recommended.
