Want to know God?

Rockford Baptist Church

William Moses Tidwell, in an article titled “Effective Illustrations,” told the sad story of a life that was almost saved.

“One Tuesday, we were called to conduct a funeral in one of the suburbs of Chattanooga. On arriving, we found the little house filled. We pressed our way back to the room where the weeping wife, family and friends were.

“The wife was greatly distressed. She grasped my hand and said, ‘Oh, Brother Tidwell, we were at your church last Sunday night. When you made the altar call, my husband almost came. He lifted his hand for prayer. He started and took a few steps down the aisle, but for some reason, he came back. On Monday morning, he was driving his car and it crashed into a telephone poll.’”

How often people put off the most important decision of their life for a more appropriate time. When this happens, they are putting their life at risk.

We never know when the time may come that will limit our ability or actually void any opportunity to accept Jesus Christ as Savior of our lives.

This acceptance of Christ can be accomplished by simply accepting the fact that He is the only way to have forgiveness of all sin and eternal life with God, the Father. Your acceptance then leads to belief that Christ has paid for your sins and will honor your request as you ask Him to cleanse you and live in you, walking with you daily.

Then as you accept Him, believe His Word, you will want to confess Him as Lord and Savior of your life, becoming involved in a local church where the Bible is preached and Jesus is glorified.

The apostle Paul said it this way: “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. With the heart one believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth one confesses, resulting in salvation. Now the Scripture says, “No one who believes on Him will be put to shame … since the same Lord of all is rich to all who call on Him. For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Rom. 10:9–13 HCSB).
