Discrimination?

Discrimination?

I understand the need for services for children of divorce, but I fail to understand why the Baptist church would discriminate against 50 percent of divorced parents- fathers.

Did I understand the article “Care for Single Mothers with Small Children Planned” correctly that only single mothers would qualify for the family care residential program? Why does not our Christian compassion and assistance extend also to the fathers?

The article was offensive to me because non-gender specific words such as family, parent and client were used, but only benefits and services offered to the single mother were described, as if the mother is the only parent and constitutes the only cornerstone of the family unit. Isn’t that contradictory to the teaching s of the Baptist church?

While I am not advocating a revolution of this particular program, I am asking for heightened awareness by the Baptist religion of the needs of one-half of all divorced parent.

I do not want to see the denomination I recently adopted discriminate against any person in need, especially parents, fathers and mothers.
