Q: What was your childhood like?
A: I grew up in south Alabama but was born in Ohio. When I was 10, my daddy died so we moved to Tennessee with my mother’s family. … My mother was a wonderful Christian and read to us every night before we went to bed.

Q: How did you come to know the Lord?
A: I was introduced by my mother because she was very devout and read the Scriptures to … me. I was baptized in the Tombigbee River when I was 9.

Q: How have you been involved in church through the years?
A: When I moved to Talladega, I went to [First Baptist Church] and I started teaching Sunday School to young people for at least 40 years. I am active in WMU (Woman’s Missionary Union). Those are my best friends. I have been on several missions trips to Haiti, Antigua, South Africa, Pennsylvania, Indianapolis and Wyoming. In Wyoming, I was a camp nurse for 10 days.

Q: What have you gotten from those ministries?
A: Blessings over blessings. It’s always a blessing when you can work with young people and see them grow and come to know Jesus.

Q: How have churches changed over the years?
A: Our dress code has changed. You used to dress your best going to church. Our lifestyles have changed and so has the music. We have praise songs now in our church. We also no longer have a Wednesday prayer service.

Q: How do you see yourself involved in church in the future?
A: I will continue working for WMU as long as I can. I thank the Lord that He gives me the brain and energy to do so.

Q: What difference has being a Christian made in your life?
A: I don’t have any idea of living without being a Christian. I have felt His presence in not only the bad times but the joyful times as well. The support of the church and Christian friends is wonderful.
