Phares, Adolph

Retired Alabama Baptist pastor Adolph Phares died Nov. 12. He was 77.

A native of Moundville, Phares served as a pastor for 55 years in seven churches in Marion, Greene, Tuscaloosa and Mobile counties as well as churches in Florida and Indiana. He also served as president of the Tuscaloosa Baptist Association Pastors Conference and moderator of associations in Indiana and Florida. He was a member of the Florida State Board of Missions from 1977 to 1980 and 1989 to 1995.

Phares continued to serve as an interim pastor after he retired in 1995.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956, during which time he accepted Christ as a result of receiving a Gideon New Testament. He graduated from Howard College (now Samford University) in Birmingham with a bachelor of religious education and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with a master of divinity.

At the time of his death, Phares was a member of Pathway Baptist Church, Dothan.

He was preceded in death by his son Bob. Phares is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley; three children; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.  (TAB)
