Elbert Williams, long-time Alabama Baptist campus minister, died Nov. 27 in Troy after a lengthy illness. Williams served with the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions as campus minister at the University of Alabama Medical Center (now University of Alabama at Birmingham) 1961-1970 and at Troy State University 1970-1989.
Williams, a native of Jasper, served in the Army during World War II. He received degrees from the University of Alabama and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas. Williams served as campus minister in Louisiana and Tennessee before returning to Alabama.
Survivors include his wife, Janelle, two sons, two sisters, a sister-in-law, three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
