Baptist Health System (BHS) was honored as one of the Birmingham area’s “Friends of the Family” in Birmingham Family Times’ seventh annual recognition of Birmingham’s Best Companies for Working Families.
Judges ranked the entries of Birmingham-area companies according to a star-rating system based on the number of family friendly policies and programs of each. From these, the 45 companies recognized as “Friends of the Family” and seven “Best of the Best” (based on size and industry) were chosen.
BHS Human Resources President Tom Sanders said this recognition acknowledges the efforts at BHS to help employees achieve balance between home and work. “Maintaining a healthy balance between the hours spent at work and the hours devoted to family can be very difficult,” said Sanders, himself the father of two. “But it’s a balance that must be achieved.”
Some of the “Family-friendly” benefits that placed BHS in “Best Companies for Working Families” are: Family-related workshops, discounts on family-related services such as fitness center discounts, scholarships and educational assistance for employees and family members, healthy lifestyle programs such as free health screenings, health education and workshops, continuing education and professional development, nurse practitioner loan/scholarships, education starter loans, tuition reimbursement, and parish nurse training scholarships and near-site child care center.
