BHS names pastoral ministries director

Baptist Health System (BHS) has named Ed Richardson, D. Min., as its senior director of pastoral ministries.

In announcing the selection, William Hynson, executive vice president for hospital operations, said, “Ed Richardson exceeds the professional pastoral skills and credentials we looked for in our selection process.

“He also possesses the spiritual faith to help us fulfill our promised medical ministry of ministering to body, mind and spirit.”

Richardson comes to the Birmingham-based BHS from his position as director of pastoral care services at Sioux Valley Hospital University, a part of the South Dakota Medical Center in Sioux Falls. The medical center is the 650-bed flagship hospital of a 23-hospital system.

Born in Tennessee, he received his bachelor’s degree at Carson-Newman College in his home state. He earned a master of divinity degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., and another in theology from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary at Wake Forest, N.C. In 1996, he received a doctorate of ministry from Georgia’s Columbia Theological Seminary.

Prior to his hospital-based pastoral ministries, he served in U.S.-2 Missions through the then Home Mission Board (now North American Mission Board) and as pastor in two Baptist churches. He and his wife, Debra are parents of two sons and a daughter. Richardson will commence employment with BHS Sec. 2.
