With all due respect to other opinions, the effort to put the Ten Commandments in most public buildings could backfire on believers who want to share their faith. If the general public believes, however incorrectly, that Christians are trying to cram “religion” down people’s throats with regard to the Ten Commandments, they might be less inclined to listen, even hostile, to any personal witnessing efforts we might initiate.
The witness of our own lives would speak much more effectively for the sake of the gospel. If we feel we need legislative and judicial sanction as a “Christian state” to advance the gospel and see lives changed, we are unwittingly seeking the approval of men rather than of God. Let’s not seek to win this letgislative battle while losing the war in our state.
