Mainstream group collecting money for missionary fund

Mainstream Alabama Baptists are receiving funds for the missionary transition fund created by the Baptist General Convention of Texas.

The fund was created following the recent request by International Mission Board (IMB) president Jerry Rankin that all IMB missionaries sign a statement affirming the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message.

It exists to help missionaries financially who may leave the missions field because of the issue of signing an affirmation statement.

Officers of the Alabama Baptist State Convention report the Alabama convention may only forward funds to budget items previously approved by the convention and, consequently, cannot establish a rescue fund.

Therefore, Mainstream Alabama Baptists will receive funds from any individual or church. These funds will be forwarded to the Texas convention which will administer them for Alabama, giving priority to missionaries who grew up in Alabama, their spouses and children. These missionaries are being encouraged to contact the Texas convention for help.

Funds may be sent to: Treasurer, Mainstream Alabama Baptists, P.O. Box 18641, Huntsville, AL 35804. Checks are to be labeled “Missionary Relief.”
