Hicks, Mary Alice

Mary Alice Hicks of Montevallo, nurse for Shocco Springs Conference Center for 14 years, died April 12 at age 87 in Alabaster.

A registered nurse, Hicks and her late husband, Welton Grady Hicks, were charter members of University Baptist Church, Montevallo.

Throughout the years Hicks served in the Sunday School and Training Union programs at University. She also worked with children and college students and served as chairman of the nominating committee, assisted with financial duties and helped in the church office.

Hicks was elected as a deacon in the early days of the congregation, served several terms throughout the years, and was named “deacon emeritus” by the congregation in 1998. She also served in leadership capacities at the state and associational levels.
