Lottie Moon Christmas Offering national goal set at $150 million

Southern Baptists are being asked to repeat last year’s feat of record giving to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering (LMCO).

In hope of setting a new record offering, the national LMCO goal is set at $150 million.

For 2003, the offering took in a record high of $136,204,648.17, an increase of 18.4 percent over the year before.

When that offering was announced, International Mission Board trustee chair Tom Hatley encouraged Southern Baptists not to rest on those laurels.

The Arkansas pastor said, “We still have many people in the pipeline, awaiting their turn for appointment.”
Alabama Baptists exceeded the state goal last year as well, giving $253,947.19 over the goal of $9 million. The state goal this year is the same.

Stuart Calvert, president of Alabama Woman’s Missionary Union, said such giving encourages her.

“It’s been a joy every year to see how the national and state goals are met,” she said.

Calvert noted that 100 percent of the money given by Southern Baptists to LMCO goes directly to missionaries on the field.

“It’s like a mushroom effect. You see your $1 go to a car that then helps a missionary, that reaches hundreds of people.”
