Longtime music minister Bill Roper dies

 

Bill Roper, music minister of First Baptist Church, Montgomery, died Jan. 24 at age 66. Roper had served as the minister of music of First, Montgomery, for 32 years.

Born in Kentucky, Roper was a graduate of Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tenn., and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.

Roper created and directed the Living Christmas Tree at First, Montgomery, which has taken place at the church for more than 20 years. He also served as president of the Southern Baptist Church Music Conference.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Patty, two daughters, four grandchildren and one sister.
