Jean Harrison, 85, is retiring as the church treasurer for Dry Valley Baptist Church, Lincoln, after serving for 42 years. She also has taught Sunday School classes for senior adults and children grades 4–6. In addition, Harrison has worked with Girls in Action. “My greatest desire is to love people and see the church in unity and working together,” she said.
Q: How did you come to know the Lord?
A: My mother was my Sunday School teacher when I was a junior. I realized I was lost and wanted to be saved and be a Christian. The day I was saved was during revival.
Q: What led you to serve in the church?
A: Because I was asked to. The treasurer that we had moved [away]. … They asked me to be the treasurer and I have just continued.
Q: What has serving required of you?
A: When I first began 42 years ago, it was not as much work. We have a small country church. Through the years, it’s grown. I have kept the records and ordered materials, just everything that comes with being church treasurer.
Q: How do you see yourself involved in ministry in the future?
A: As I’m led to and as the Lord leads me and the church asks me to do something, I’ll do what I can. My health is not as good as it has been, but I still love to go to church.
Q: What difference has Christ made in your life?
A: He has given me life — from death to life. Knowing that through Him, He gives us eternal life.
