Cheryl Walker is someone you should know. Over the past 22 years, she has served as a foster parent for 103 newborn babies for Lifeline Children Services, a birth mother-centered Christian adoption agency located in Birmingham. She and her family have kept several children more than one year and one child for two-and-one-half years.
Q: Why have you done this activity?
A: Abortion breaks the heart of God and it just seemed that this was something I needed to do. I had volunteered with Save-A-Life and I believe that God called me to be a mother to other mothers’ babies when I was 15.
Q: What does this ministry demand?
A: It’s not demanding God called me to do this and I feel like He has made it possible for me to do His ministry through Lifeline. It is not a demand it’s privilege that God is letting me care for His little children. When I kiss that little face, I feel like I am kissing the face of Jesus. The Bible says that when you do it to the least of these you have done it to Me.
Q: What do you get from it?
A: Joy and blessings. I never tire of it. It is always a joy. Continuous night feedings are a joy. That’s the only way I know how to describe it. That’s how I know it’s His ministry.
Q: What led you to this ministry?
A: When abortion became legalized God began to convict my heart that His heart was broken when there was an abortion. As a Christian, I needed to take a stand and do what I could do to help women make the right choices in crisis pregnancies.
Q: How do other family members support you?
A: When God said to me to do it, there was no question in our family. My husband immediately said yes. My children were just ecstatic. God gave me a husband and children that were my support people. I could not have done this without them.
