Hueytown quintet reaches out to seniors with music

Singing for seniors is what the members of the vocal group Sweet Assurance say they like to do best.

“We have a lot of fun, and we want to be more evangelistic in our efforts all the time,” said Teresa Cosper, a member of the five-woman group. “Our main purpose is to reach people for the Lord.”

Sweet Assurance serves as part of the outreach ministry of North Highlands Baptist Church in Hueytown, Bessemer Association. The quintet sings for senior adult groups all over the state, as well as for revivals and community organizations.

Formed in 1994, Sweet Assurance sings a mix of inspirational, gospel and contemporary music.

“They have a beautiful sound and an even more beautiful message,” said Ronnie Nelson, minister of music at North Highlands.

The group recently released its second album, “That Says It All,” and is planning a tour of Alabama’s Gulf Coast in May.

“We love singing, we love the Lord and we love ministering to everyone we come in contact with,” Cosper said. “He keeps opening doors for us.”
