Longtime pastor Kirkley dies

Harry Earl Kirkley died Dec. 13 at his home in Guntersville. He was 77.

The longtime Alabama Baptist pastor and leader in Baptist education was a trustee of Samford University for 12 years and served on the board of governors of Judson College in Marion. He taught Samford extension classes 1952-2000. He was also a member of the board of the Alabama Baptist Retirement Centers.

The graduate of Howard College (now Samford) earned his master’s from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and his doctorate from Samford.

He was pastor of 13 churches during his ministry.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Kirkley, three daughters, one son, 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one sister.
