Believing is not enough. You have to make a commitment to what you believe in.
I believe when a person is committed to God and has that firm belief, the next step is to believe in yourself.
When you have set a goal in your life and you reach it, that is the time you should set another goal. Talk to yourself, “What dreams about my life have I reached?”
Then say to yourself, “I must dream on.”
Within all of us there must be that leap of faith that calls to us to live life at its fullest.
I cannot remember where I heard this but the statement rings true: “The only thing worse than death is not to have lived life to the fullest.” God means for us to experience joy regardless of our circumstances, give ourselves completely to Christ and watch God work in our lives.
A great attitude
During Christmas, I received a beautiful letter from my friend Ruby Masters, who lives in Florida. She claims Suzie and Dave Lockard as her daughter and son-in-law.
Some of you remember David Lockard as the first executive director for training Southern Baptist missionaries at Callaway Gardens.
Suzie and Dave are doing great and live in a wonderful retirement center in Florida. As expected, they still go about helping others in every way possible.
Ruby returned 90 in September. In her letter she explained that her memory was a little short and she had some aches and pains, but other than that she was doing great. With her letter she sent a piece titled “A Talk with the Lord.” What a wonderful attitude for all of us to have this coming year.
“Today, Dear Lord, I’m 90, and there’s much I haven’t done.
I hope, Dear Lord, you’ll let me live until I’m 91.
But then, if I haven’t finished all I want to do.
Would you let me stay a while until I’m 92?
So many places I want to go, so very much to see.
Do you think that you could manage to make it 93?
The world is changing very fast, there is so much in store.
I’d like it very much to live until I’m 94.
And if by then I’m still alive I’d like to make it to 95.
More planes will be up in the air, so I’d really like to stick,
And see what happens to the world when I am 96.
I know, Dear Lord, it’s much to ask, and it must be nice in heaven,
But I’d really like to stick around until I’m 97.
I know by then I won’t be fast, and sometimes I’ll be late,
But it would be so pleasant to be around at 98.
I will have seen so many things and had a wonderful time,
So maybe I’ll be willing to leave at 99.
I’m 90 Lord, my mind is sound. I like it here, and I can still walk around.
My time is limited I know, and sometime I’ll have to go.
Am I so greedy or guided by fears?
I want to see what happens in the next few years.
I’m sure you’ve heard this plea before,
But my bags will be packed at 104.”

I love this attitude. Happy New Year to each of you.
