The American Idol-like Christian Artist Talent Search (CATS) has begun with sign-up from April to June, followed by regional competitions in July and August in eight major cities.
Sponsored and produced by the Inspiration Network (INSP), Charlotte-based parent company of three cable stations, the televised series will appear in the fall with 24 programs. Partnering with recording company Butterfly Group, the network will offer the winner a $200,000 recording contract.
Ron Shuping, co-executive producer and senior vice president of programming, says the idea has been in the works for three years, but CATS just got started last year.
The show will begin airing January 2004.
Contestants must sign up by June 16. Clifton Davis, star of the show “Amen” which ran on NBC in the late ‘80s, will host the series. Music industry professionals and celebrity judges will judge contestants. For information visit www.insp.com.
