Tips to overcome stress, fatigue

In his presentation, Chuck Register of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina explained that over time, a person’s serotonin, or “feel-good hormone,” can be depleted by extreme stress and compassion fatigue.

But he said tornado survivors can battle compassion fatigue and serotonin loss by maximizing their levels of serotonin by doing things like

• relaxing,
• carving out time for enjoyable activities,
• prioritizing personal devotional time,
• prioritizing family life,
• considering counseling,
• joining a support group,
• creating opportunities to talk about loss within their church and
• preparing emotionally and spiritually for future disasters.  (TAB)
