Paige Patterson, president of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) and Southeastern Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C., will speak at the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Alabama (SBCOA) April 28 at Raleigh Avenue Baptist Church, Homewood. The meeting will begin with a noon luncheon, followed by a session at 12:45 p.m. featuring a message by Patterson.
“We support the conservative resurgence in SBC and want to see” in more in Alabama, said John Killian, moderator of SBCOA and pastor of Maytown Baptist Church in the Bessemer Association. Patterson is recognized as a key leader in the conservative resurgence among Southern Baptists.
Killian, who has been a member since the group’s inception in 1997 said the group is fairly mainstream in Alabama because of the conservative nature and history of the state. He described the group as a “very loyal, pro Southern Baptist grassroots” organization. The group urges more involvement in the Alabama Baptist State Convention. It has an annual pastor’s conference and several steering committee meetings throughout the year.
Killian, who said Al Moore came to speak at the luncheon in 1999, said getting Patterson to come might draw more attention because of the name recognition.
The cost of lunch is $6. For more information, call Killian at 205-786-5359 or Raleigh Avenue Baptist at 205-942-8060.
