Two young women shared how God led them to Judson College during the college’s report to the state convention Nov. 15.
Jana Davenport, of Jemison, and Haley Gates, of Carrollton, also shared what their experiences have been at the Alabama Baptist women’s college.
Davenport, a psychology major, said Judson’s motto, “Knowledge and Faith for a Purposeful Life,” is everything she’s discovered there.
“I’ve worked harder than I had ever thought possible, but I’ve had more joy than I’ve ever had before,” she said.
Davenport said she sees Judson as an environment where students are encouraged to grow spiritually, a blessing she has experienced on a personal level.
“There are many reasons a woman may choose Judson,” Davenport said. “But no matter what the reason, I believe God will reveal Himself there.”
Gates took the advice of a member of her home church, First Baptist, Aliceville, to consider Judson as an option during her college search.
When she stepped on the campus, Gates said she had a “defining moment” when God told her that while she had a plan for her life, His plan was greater.
A biology and chemistry major, Gates said she has been prepared academically and spiritually by Judson professors.
“Thank you for giving to [Judson] and allowing me to seek out the will of God (in my life),” she said.
According to the Book of Reports, Judson was one of six Alabama colleges and universities receiving presidential recognition after being named to the honor roll for community engagement by the Corporation for National and Community Service.
Judson’s newest athletic program, soccer, had a good third season and improvements continue to be made in the Charles F. Dunkin Athletic Park.
Equine students competed in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association in the college’s new riding arena.
With the new Spanish major, Judson now has 19 majors, 23 minors and 11 pre-professional programs.
President David Potts closed the report with a thank you to Alabama Baptists.
“God bless Alabama Baptists for caring enough to keep Judson (and) to keep Christian higher education,” Potts said. “Together, we do make a difference.” (TAB)
