Family Ties
Daywind Records
Brothers and sisters. Parents and children. Kinfolk. There is no stronger human bond than that of family.
One of the most influential southern gospel music families of the 1990s was the Wilburns. In 2012, Jonathan Wilburn is introducing the next generation of singing Wilburns: his son, Jordan.
Traveling as Wilburn & Wilburn, this Daywind Records duo is showing audiences that whether it is blood relation or duet musical harmony, there is nothing as strong as family ties.
“Family Ties” has a different feel from other southern gospel records you will hear. Top-notch bluegrass/acoustic producer Ben Isaacs aptly melded the worlds of southern gospel and acoustic country to create a truly unique sound.
The drums and upright bass are able to retain their acoustic qualities without being overprocessed and overcompressed.
This band of cross-genre master musicians puts its best fingers forward to operate as one cohesive unit for Wilburn & Wilburn.
As a duo, Jonathan and Jordan Wilburn split up the solos on this wonderful group of songs. Jordan emerges as a powerful vocalist with the ability to communicate the message of a song whether it’s on a ballad like “Jesus Will” or “A Cross Became My Saving Grace” or encouraging, upbeat songs such as “Devil Be Gone” or “I John” — and there is no denying that this is Jonathan’s boy on “I Ain’t Giving Up on Jesus.”
And somewhere in Carthage, Tenn., you know that Elaine sheds a tear every time Jonathan, her baby boy, sings the heartfelt song, “Mama.”
