The University of Mobile (UMobile) Opera Theatre will present Johann Strauss’ comic masterpiece “Die Fledermaus” (The Bat) on Feb. 16–17.
Set around a masked ball, “Die Fledermaus” is being transplanted from its origins in Vienna, Austria, to modern-day Mobile. Originally written in German, this production will be performed in English featuring student singers and a mix of student and professional orchestra members led by Maestro Robert Seebacher, music director and conductor of the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra in Tennessee and the Mobile Symphony Youth Orchestra. Stage direction is by Patrick Jacobs, associate professor of music in the UMobile Center for Performing Arts.
The operetta will be performed each night at 7:30 p.m. at the Chickasaw Civic Theatre in Chickasaw.
